Lessons From The Wise

Ki was accusing me of keeping all the valuable lessons that my colleague shared with me, and hoarding all the wisdom he imparted. Lol. Well, most of the stuff he told me was very specific to my work, but here are some general things he said that's worth thinking about.

1. Office politics. No matter how much you avoid it, as long as there are people, there will *always* be politics. You can't hide from it.

2. It's nice to be helpful and all, but one must *always* weigh the pros and cons of doing so. Don't help someone out if it means giving less attention to something you ought to be focusing on. Help only when you really have extra time / resources to spare.

3. Make sure that you cover your ass in everything you do.

4. Always do the best you can in whatever job that's been given to you so that people know that you're giving it your all. Even if you make a mistake or weren't the best person ever employed to do it, you can't fault someone who is doing their best and wanting to learn how to do it better.

I'm sure there are more but I'm gonna nap. Heehee.

To be honest, Babe...these are things I've already learned. LOL.

Always good to have it reiterated though; we tend to forget them sometimes.

1. No matter where you work, in whatever industry you're in, regardless of whether you work with only one other person, or one hundred...there will be office politics.

2. This is something I gotta keep reminding myself of. I tend to over-commit.

3. CYA should be Rule #1!!!

4. Another hard-hitting reminder. I gotta admit that I don't always do my best. Possibly stems from my intelligence (and arrogance!) - I KNOW I can do a good job with a half-assed effort, therefore why bother going all out to do my best? I conveniently forget that I can do an amazing job once I put my mind (and effort!) into it.

Here's another lesson that I think we're both learning all too well:

We are surrounded by idiots. Some are dumber than others. Some manage to hide their stupidity for a while. Accept that they are all idiots, and move on.
